Faithful Father (Day 9)

A King and Kingdom Unending

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Luke 1: 31-33

One of the many things I love about God’s Word, is that there are so many truths and revelations He has for us in one sentence. We have already taken a look at Luke 1: 31-33, but there is a promise and a revelation of God’s faithfulness on display that demands a response.

Luke is telling Mary, and us, that the son Mary will be having will be King! Not just any king, He is the long-awaited King. The king that is going to change the dynamics of natural and the spiritual. There would be a difference felt, seen, and made in the natural through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and ascension. There would also be a shift in the spiritual as well. King Jesus would be opening the veil for all who seek the Father.

King Jesus will not be shaken, nor will His throne be overturned by anyone. Neither will those who are His. Therefore, all of His followers, are now protected in a never-ending Kingdom with promises, protection, and identity galore. What a promise Mary was receiving! What a promise we get to walk in!

The Father is faithful. He didn’t send another judge, who would simply lead the people in the flesh. He didn’t send just any old prophet, although the prophets were indeed inspired and a big part of God’s redemptive heart and plan. God send His only Son. King Jesus is the Son of the Most High God. He is the King who will reign, without losing His throne to the desires of the flesh, like David did. He is the King who will rule not with manipulative purposes, but with a pure heart set before God operating in obedience to the Father. He is the chosen One! Jacob manipulated to get the birthright and blessing, Jesus was chosen so that we all could partake of both through Him!

Look to His faithfulness today. You serve a King whose Kingdom does not end. His kingdom is every expanding and ever protected. His Kingdom is full of life and life abundantly. Take hold of this promise today. You serve a King, who has won the war for your soul. You will not want. He will make you lie down in green pastures. He has indeed restored your soul! We are so blessed to have such a faithful Father. Those who believe in the name of Jesus are now sons and daughters of God. Walk favorably and confidently in your new kingdom identity.

Faithful Father (Day 8)

 And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.

Luke 1: 46-56

How is that for a response to a God moment? Mary further demonstrates her availability to the Almighty by praising Him for such a wonderful encounter with Him. If you remember from the day before, Mary had just had a wonderful God moment. Elizabeth’s baby leaped for joy in response to the hope that was coming forth from Mary’s womb. Elizabeth then began to speak over Mary and praise the Lord. The joy of the Holy Spirit had filled the atmosphere of the home! Hope had arrived, God was in the room.

I sincerely believe the Lord is seeking His church to respond to His goodness and faithfulness as Mary did in this proclamation of God’s goodness. She encountered the Lord’s faithfulness, hope, and goodness, and responded in the only logical manner to her. Praise! She did not simply move on in her life  hardly amused, nor did she go and brag to anyone about how special she was. Her response to God’s favor for her, and all of His children, was to praise Him and declare His faithfulness.

The Lord is seeking a generation who will rise up with such gusto. He is looking for sons and daughters who will declare His goodness after spending time with Him! He is not looking for people who show up to church, and leave unchanged and without entertaining His presence. He is looking and calling for a royal priesthood who can herald the good news of Jesus!

He is calling forth a generation that desires to spend time in His presence, and respond to Him, not simply show up to be entertained and fed. This is the hour He is calling His true sons and daughters to emerge and shine by declaring His goodness! He sent His Son so that the world may know Him, not so that we might use Him for our vain purposes.

Mary stewards this encounter and placed God onto center stage to be glorified! The Lord wants to bring you near, and wants to use you to bring others near. Are you encountering God? How are you stewarding these encounters? Are you tweeting and posting about how amazing you are for getting a revelation, or are you boasting of His greatness! The most amazing part of an encounter with God, is that God encountered us, not that we are something special.

Our Father is Faithful. Let’s honor Him by honoring Him with our responses to His presence. The difference between sheep and goats is that sheep love the presence of the Shepherd and know His voice. The goats simply follow to eat where the sheep are. Jesus is separating the sheep from goats. The faithfulness of the Father has given us access to intimacy and responsibility to honor the Shepherd. Let us respond to His faithfulness by being faithful to Him. Jesus is the best part of us, let us let the world see that and hear that! Respond, as Mary did.

Faithful Father Day 7

In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Luke 1: 39-45

I love “God moments.” In fact, I live for them, because I live for Him. I believe our life is to be a continuous string of uninterrupted “God moments.” God did not send His Son for us to simply make an arrangement with Him, in regards to the remainder of our eternity.  This was certainly one of the reasons He sent His son, but this was not the exclusive purpose. God sent His Son so that all who believe in Him, would have everlasting life. That life starts the moment Jesus enters the room, and enters your heart.

I can’t imagine what the atmosphere of the house must have been like when Mary entered the home of Zechariah and Elizabeth. Zechariah is still mute, trying to motion signals and what not. Mary walks in, and all of a sudden, Elizabeth bursts through Zechariah’s silence with the joy of the Holy Spirit! She begins prophesying and praising the Lord for Mary. Her baby (John the Baptist) leaped for joy at the sound of her voice. What Elizabeth and John the Baptist demonstrate here is that Jesus demands a response. Our soul can’t help but decide to respond to Him. We will respond to Him in belief and praise, or disbelief and perilous pessimism. The choice is ours. The Father desires for us to have these joyous encounters with Him through His Son and His Spirit.

The Father is a father of accessibility. By sending His Son, He provided an avenue for man to interact with Him, and to respond to Him. God gave this household a “God moment.” Where God could be felt, responded to, and rejoiced in. This is His heart for you. Respond to Jesus, allow Him to change the atmosphere in the room and to birth the joy only He can bring.

I promise you, God is faithful. He will come to you. Respond to Him today. Your “God moment” is waiting for you, your Father is calling you.

Faithful Father (Day 6)

Nothing is Impossible

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Luke 1: 34-38

“How will this be?” Have you ever found yourself asking this question? God calls you to a seemingly impossible task or circumstance, and you immediately find yourself asking this question. It is in the call that we find ourselves questioning. We love the idea of the call, but the actual implementation of the call seems impossible. I have great news for you, your call is all about His glory. And His glory is sustained by His Spirit. Therefore, the pressure is not on you at all. It is God’s heart to see His children through!

When Mary asked “how,” the angel communicates to her the “Who,” more than the “how.” The answers to the impossible are only found in the Almighty. I wonder how many reading this are asking “how” instead of looking to the “Who.” It is when we gaze upon His face, and seek His presence, that we realize the “how” is important, but is irrelevant if the “Who” is not with us.

The angel declares nothing will be impossible for God. This is present and future tense. God can do anything, at anytime, for His glory and His name sake. What has God called you to? What has He spoke to you, that you find yourself trembling in doubt and questioning? He is a faithful Father. With Him, all things are possible.

Provision for the Promise

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.

Luke 1: 31-35

Yesterday we saw that God’s favor was nothing to fear, but rather a blessing to walk in. Today we are going to see how God is able to provide the promise, as well as give the provision. God had promised the coming Messiah hundreds of years before the angel came to visit Mary and Zechariah, in their individual angelic encounters. God was now allowing the promise to come at the right time.

God told Mary that she would conceive a Child, and this child would be Jesus. Not just Jesus, King Jesus, He would be given the throne of David and rule the house of Jacob forever, and that the kingdom her baby would reign in would have no end! That’s quite the promise. That type of promise would require much provision. Thankfully, our Father is faithful. He provided the Messiah we needed through vessels He could use.

God promised Mary that His power and Spirit would take control of this situation. Her virgin nature did not disqualify her for this task, God saw she was able to be used for His glory, therefore, He chose her in sovereignty to birth the Messiah into this world. It’s important to take note that God would be taking over. God was going to give the baby to Mary, and that God was going to be the power in this situation. In doing this, God would deliver the perfect and spotless lamb, Jesus, to atone our sins.

Perhaps you are walking in a situation that seems impossible. While you aren’t birthing the Savior of the world, you are trying to walk in obedience to Him. I want to encourage you that everything that God calls you to do, He will be faithful to provide for the promise. He is not a Father who makes promises and breaks them. He sticks to His word, and follows through on His promises. There is provision available for you, rest in His power and Spirit. Jesus is here, He has made a way. Thank you, Father!

Faithful Father (Day4)

32156_faithful

Favor. Fear Not.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

Luke 2:26-31

At this point in Mary’s life, she was a teenager. She was pure and preparing herself for her new life with her husband to be, Joseph. She was living her life before the Lord in a manner which He could bestow favor upon her. As she was living her life and seeking her next steps with Joseph, the Lord interrupted her plans, with His plans.

Before reading anymore, I want to ask you a question. Are you ready and welcoming to an interruption from Heaven? I ask you this because Mary was about to have her life interrupted majorly. God was going to give Mary favor, so much favor, that she would be afraid.

Favor

We have the blessing of reading this passage with hindsight. We know the beginning of this event, the middle events, and the end event. Jesus came, He died, He rose from the dead, and now He is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. Mary did not have such foresight going into this journey. She did not have the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John at her disposal. She would be given divine promises from God (SO YES, MARY DID KNOW, let’s stop singing songs that ask that), that she would have to guide her and prepare her for her ministry as the mother of Jesus.

Mary had found favor in the eyes of the Lord. I absolutely love Mary’s reaction to this favor. Gabriel tells Mary she is a “favored one” and that “The Lord is with” her. She becomes troubled and starts to fear. I love this reaction because it shows how purposed her heart was. God had seemingly been mute for hundreds of years, and now all of a sudden, a message from Heaven comes. The message said, “Hey Mary, you are favored, God is with you!” What?!

Her fear shows us the pureness of her heart. “The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”Mary demonstrates this perfectly, yet unintentionally, for she was not responding to the Lord’s presence for show. She was genuinely distraught at this overwhelming revelation. I know many people who would be flamboyant and not fearful in this scenario. Everyone and their Mom would know just how “special” they are for being a favored one. But this was not Mary, this was a heart God could minister through and use for His glory. Mary would get the knowledge of what was to come, it was because of her disposition to God.

Simply put, Mary was fertile for the favor of God. She was a person God could use so powerfully, because she saw herself so humbly before the Lord. This is a heart that Jesus desires for His followers today. He can’t use people who will be reckless with His favor. It would do us all well to learn to steward favor, as Mary did.

Fear Not

So, Mary was favored. But another take away from this passage is that God’s favor is intended to work for us as fuel, not fear. Notice that Gabriel says “Fear Not.” God is not out to harm us. While His presence may be overwhelming, and we not feel up to the task He has intended for us, He is faithful. While He is indeed worthy of fear, we need not see Him like that, because we know Him as Father.

The Lord want’s to encourage you and charge you to fear not! There are plans He has for your life. These plans will stem out of positions of favor, but do not be overwhelmed and debilitated. Be fueled by the favor and walk humbly before your God. He is for you! To “fear not” is to be at peace with His plans, despite the consequences that may arise from following His plans. This passage once again shows how Faithful of a Father He is.

God did not simply thrust Mary into the lion’s den of the religious, He gave her a word. He gave her a plan, and He let her in on what He was about to do. He told her exactly what would happen to her, who this child would be, and what He would do. God will never put you in a position where He is not able to be your Father. He is your God, He will not shift His nature or character because you are too far into the plan He has for you. Remember this as you walk in faith. Your Father is faithful, and He will lead you and guide you. walk in His favor, and fear not!

Faithful Father (Day 3)

32156_faithful

Covered and Consecrated

And when his time of service was ended, he went to his home. After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she kept herself hidden, saying, “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.

Luke 1: 23-25

Zechariah and Elizabeth had now received word and confirmation of her pregnancy. Zechariah was mute, and unable to speak, he would make hand gestures to his wife and friends, but it was not translating in the manner he wished. Elizabeth was now pregnant, and understood the heaviness and weight of glory she was carrying. She understood the honor that is was for her to carry this child. She knew it was an honor to have a child late in life. She also knew it would be her honor towards the Lord that would see this entire situation through. After all, John would need parents to disciple him and raise him in the truth and ways of the Lord. He was consecrated, as were his parents.

Consecrated

It’s interesting that both Zechariah and Elizabeth went off the grid for a season. I see this truth and see the empowering deliverance it gives us. There are times where God is preparing us for the season ahead. There are also times when the Lord has delivered such wonderful news, that it is overwhelming.  Zechariah and Elizabeth chose to seek the Lord and praise Him in the way they knew best, after receiving such news. There are times we must consecrate our time and ourselves exclusively to the Lord. For me, fasting is such a time where I withdraw from the crowds so to speak. I want to hear from the Lord and feel His presence. I don’t want to recklessly steward the word He will have for me. Therefore, there is a time for drawing away from he crowds.

It is equally important to note that Elizabeth, Zechariah, and John were consecrated for the Lord’s work and purposes. God was not simply a weekly routine or a means to an end. God was their LIFE. Their consecration was based upon the One they were consecrated too. We are all called to live such a devoted and consecrated life. We are not of this world, although we live in this world. We are children of God. This is not our home, therefore, this world does not direct our hearts. Their lives show us the importance of being set apart in totality for God to use us in any way He sees fit. When we are consecrated to Him, there is no other voice of influence nor purpose that can direct or define us. Consecrate yourself to Him.

Covered

This passage shows the blessed covering that these three would reside under. Since they were consecrated to the Lord, they had a covering that would empower them to walk this journey. That is the blessing of being God’s and only His. To only be available to Him for His purposes is the desire He has for our lives. I want to encourage you that as you consecrate yourself to God, allow yourself to be empowered by the covering that is yours, made available to you through the redemptive and reconciling blood of Christ.

God is faithful, in that when He calls us to something, He does not abandon us. I see many orphans in this world. Seeking identity and purpose in things this world, that can only be sustained by the tortuous rat race of this world. God is a Faithful Father. He will show up for you. What He calls you to, He will see you though. He will not leave you waiting for a ride. He will not leave you hungry. And He will not abandon you. The Father is safe. Lean into your faithful Father today. He is waiting for you.

Faithful Father (Day 2)

32156_faithfulIt is easy to be cynical in regards to the promises of God when one is in waiting. One may doubt that God even speaks, let alone speaks a promise that is to be delivered when things are not going well. The Lord wants to encourage you that His promises are solid, but His promises are only birthed and received in His presence.

In Luke Chapter one, we see Zechariah and Elizabeth. They are faithful to God, yet fruitless in the womb. Things were not looking favorably for them in hopes of having child due to their old age. However, God would see His children in their faithfulness, and bless them.

“In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.”

Luke 1: 5-7

God was about to bless Zechariah and Elizabeth in a divine manner. The Lord was about to reveal the plan of the preparation of the soil for Jesus to minister on. This soil would be prepared by Zechariah and Elizabeth’s son. The people had longed for the Messiah to come, now He would be coming. But on top of that, their son (John the Baptist) would be used to prepare the way of the Messiah. Talk about being barren to  becoming bountiful! God is faithful.

Now while he was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty, according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense. And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,  for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

And Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.”And the angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.”

Luke 1: 8-20

Zechariah may have been chosen by lot, but, this was God showing Himself sovereign in the life of His child, Zechariah. Just as God was sovereign in Zechariah’s life, so He is too in yours. He knew that Zechariah would be walking into His presence, and that He would have an opportunity to speak to him. While the people were praying and Zechariah was seeking, The Lord revealed Himself through one of His angels.

Prayer

Notice that prayer preceded the presence. Prayer is the magnet which attracts God’s heart to ours. That’s what He says “draw near to me and I will draw near to you”(James 4:8). It is only when Heaven invades earth that we truly get a glimpse of the abundant life we were called to have, and the intimacy with the faithful Father He desires to have with His children. Don’t cease in praying. Go after His heart and His presence, and trust that He is faithful to show up. He actually wants to spend time with you.

Presence

While being visited from the messenger of Heaven, Zechariah received a promise from the Lord. The promise was received while in the midst of God’s presence. It is impossible to decipher the words of God without His presence being pursued and acknowledged (Maybe that’s why the Bible is only a moral code for some?). Don’t believe that? Read every single passage regarding the Pharisees and Sadducees. They rejected Jesus in His deity and killed Him when accusations of Him being the son of God surfaced. Therefore, they didn’t receive His presence nor seek after Him with a pure heart.

Gabriel declared to Zechariah that he was standing in the presence of God delivering this promise of a child for he and his wife, Elizabeth.  The presence of God is pure, holy, perfect, healing, and fertile for person of God to be revealed. The presence is the very grounds of His promises, because His promises reveal His character and nature.  They reveal God Himself! Look to the Old Testament. The best part about the promise land was not the land, although the land was indeed a blessing and a guaranteed promise. The best part of the promise land was that God would be there! Moses declared (Exodus 33:15)”Lord, do not let us enter if you will not be there!” What good are promises if they are void of His presence? That would completely go against the Father’s heart. Perhaps what you are looking for in promises is actually poison. Therefore, I encourage you to test all “promises” with His word!

Zechariah was standing in the presence of the Holy God. In His presence, anything could happen. It was in the presence that the angel delivered the prophetic word of Zechariah’s son John, and the ministry and power he would walk in. It was also in the presence of God that the angel declared that he had “good news” to deliver.

Perhaps it is the lack of the pursuit of His presence that is blocking you from intimacy from God, and obtaining the promises He desires for you. God’s presence is perfect and the very thing we seek in prayer (see the Lord’s Prayer). I want to encourage you to request His presence and to pursue Him. It is in His presence that His promises are delivered, deciphered, and demonstrated. Thank you Father, for your presence.

Promise

One last thing I’m led to share with you is that this passage shows us that God makes promises and keeps them. God saw their emptiness in the womb, and in love and sovereignty He chose to use His faithful servants for the plan and preparation of His Son to enter the world. Zechariah while in His presence, received a promise, and doubted.

Do not forsake the truth you know in your heart. While the promise may not be manifest in your life at the moment, God is still faithful in the  moment. He is a good Father who does not go against His word. What He promises will come to pass. Do not doubt.

What God says must come to pass. It was because Zechariah doubted that He was muted, but the promise was not muted. Do not mistake God’s silence for His rejection. God disciplines those He loves.

I want to see you walking in your promise. The promises that God has made available to you in His word. Believe and walk. Do not underestimate the significance of God’s heart for you to enjoy and be blessed in His promises.

This passage shows just how faithful God is. He was promising a forerunner for the Messiah. He was promising a child for two people who were barren. He was showing Himself in the midst of His Temple and his son’s life. He was preparing the way for Jesus to come.

Be ready for the goodness of God to pour into your life. Seek Him in prayer. Pursue His presence, and hold fast to His promises. He is a Good Father, He will show up.

Faithful Father (Day 1)

32156_faithful

For the next month, God’s faithfulness will be illuminated through this page. Christmas, is an amazing time in the Church to remember the faithfulness of the Father. God is a good God, who is faithful and worthy of our trust. The hope is that after this illumination is over, you will find yourself walking confidently as sons and daughters of God. We will look into the “Christmas”texts of the Bible and get tangible take aways of God’s faithfulness that we can walk in today!

Luke 1: 5-7

Does God see me living for Him? Does He even notice the life of devotion I have towards Him? Look at all of these heathens being blessed, and here I am struggling! Have you ever felt like this? You are walking before the Lord in a heart of devotion and love towards Him, but the promises of God don’t seem to be manifesting. You know the promises, you know His word, you know His heart, but His hand has yet to be revealed. If this is you, I have great news! Our Father is faithful!

Zechariah and Elizabeth were blameless before the Lord, yet they were barren in the womb. Zechariah knew that only a son could carry the legacy and torch that he desired to pass off. Elizabeth only knew the touch of a child from second hand experience, it was never a baby of her own that she held. God would show Himself to be faithful and fruitful to what was seemingly infertile. He saw that which was empty and decided to act according to His character and fill the void with fulfillment.

The odds were against them. They were OLD. They may have even given up on the thought of having a child. Despite the lack of a child, they would not lose their identity as children of God. They remained blameless in their walk.

Perhaps you can relate to this. You have been walking blamelessly before the Lord. You’ve devoted your life to Jesus, yet things seems off. Your life doesn’t match the promises you read in Scripture. The odds and circumstances appear to be against you and irreversible. I want to encourage you with this truth. You are in a great place for God to show Himself! Abraham waited for his promises from God, and God was faithful. Zechariah and Elizabeth waited for theirs as well. You are in the same company as these great heroes of the faith.

Do not mistake  God’s silence for the negligence of His promises and His follow through. God’s character does not change, therefore, His promises do not change. Just as God would come through for Abraham, Zechariah, and Elizabeth, so He can come to you. Ask the Lord to show Himself to be the God of faithfulness to you, as He was to them. He has not changed, He is the same. He turns that which is barren in to bountiful. He is a faithful Father. Lean into Daddy God and rest in Him in everything. Do not forget His character nor His ways. He is for you.

Private Practice

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 6:1

In a culture of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, it’s easy to communicate things. If you are connected to any of these social media outlets, you’ve no doubt seen the obligatory mission trip photos. You know what I’m talking about. Look at me, the middle class white guy in a country with a little dark kid. While I’m sure not all of the people who post these do so in vanity, I’m almost certain there is a level of vanity in some. Only because I’ve seen it in my years of ministry.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Ron Burgundy…. “Hey everyone, come and see how good I look.” Cracks me up every time. But here’s the not so funny side of Western Christianity. Sometimes we do things not to honor God, but to make ourselves appear to be something we are not. We perform to promote our image. You may be unethical in everything else you do, but when it comes time to serve Jesus, not even the apostle Paul has anything on you. In a business meeting you are the pope, behind close doors you are Howard Stern.

Jesus tells us those who serve others to be seen by others aren’t gaining anything but a blind eye from the Father. Sure, everyone around you may think you are great. But God doesn’t see your “selfless sacrifice.”

So, here is what Jesus has for us. When we serve Him, seek to only be seen by Him and for the ones you are serving to see Him through the love you are demonstrating, which He gave you. We are not called to be a people of position, but of posture. Our posture before the Lord will always dictate the positions He can place us in.

I want to encourage you to have a heart that his humble and hungry for the Father’s attention. Serve Him, don’t perform for Him. Posture your heart in a place of serving Him out of love and exalting Jesus. Make much of Jesus!
